I want a new hardrive but i dont want to spend the money. So can i some how format a diffrent external harddive to use one xbox360

..unles you have a jtag, this cannot be done

You can do this, but Microsoft can detect that you are using an external hard drive, therefore,  I would not recommend trying this

 

No you can't. They also cannot detect it because you require their drivers to make it play on the Xbox 360 properly and read / write. (JTAG ONLY Can read diff HDs)

I remember reading about how microsoft was now able to detect the use of standard hard drives rather than microsoft ones.

There used to be a tutorial on how to do this on xbox360iso.com

but on the thread someone posted a link to xbox.com that read about how microsoft was now able to detect unauthorized hard drives.

I've never herd anybody. In my entire life getting banned from using other HDs because you can't without MSes drivers or a JTAG.
